I feel like my blog is more boring than it has been lately. Perhaps that's because I have (1) either been too busy to blog, or (2) have nothing to blog about. Well, here are some things that have happened this week.
Physical therapy. Thanks to a new insurance plan this year, I found out today that I'm maxing out my insurance a lot more quickly than I thought, so I can't come to therapy as often anymore. I have mixed reactions about this. At any rate, I'm still going to go, but I'll only be going once a week, and only for one more month. I know I've whined about PT, but being totally released from it is like being cut off in space to fend for yourself. I'm not quite ready for that yet. I'm only at five weeks (yesterday); last time I tore my ACL I was in PT for nine weeks.
More surgery. My grandma had knee replacement surgery yesterday. I thought my surgery was bad. Ironic that I'll be spending more time in the hospital, but at least it isn't for me this time.
Better than crutches. I am now the proud owner of my very own cane. Yes, the type of canes you see senior citizens using, except that mine is cool and makes me feel like I can use it without feeling like a dork. My grandpa decided that a cane would be better than using one crutch all the time, so here I am with a cane. I objected, but my grandma told me to let my grandpa spoil me every once in awhile, "even though I'd probably benefit more from a new outfit instead." :) I do have to admit a cane is smaller and lighter than hauling around a really conspicuous crutch.
Freelance jobs. I think I'm insane to consider a freelance writing position at this point in my life, but since I never know what is going to happen with my current job, it is nice to connect with a networking contacts. (Who knows how many of those will actually show up over my lifetime...) But I can't really tell if I have the job yet. The guy gave me some documents as a test run, documents that have already been written, so I don't know if they're even valid. But then again, if they're willing to pay me for it, I don't really care. It would be nice if I could "practice" on something that actually needs to be written instead of me working on something that has already been "done." However, I am happy that I can find some things to change that would enhance the readability of the document; maybe that will be enough. I feel like I have a lot to prove to this guy; it was the most intimidating interview I've ever been in. Stay tuned on this story...
Real people and graduate school. I went to lunch yesterday with a girl in one of my online classes. She works in the building next to mine, so we decided to meet each other. She gave me some good advice about the program, since I'm just starting and she's graduating next year. I've also been asked to go to a BYU graduate school fair with the USU graduate department, which should be interesting only because I haven't been in the program that long... but at least I can represent those people who want to study writing but don't want a sole English degree. English means literature, and editing/grammar/writing types sometimes have issues with that--the literature/writing debate has been going on for centuries, as I have been learning in my classes.
News from the East. The Brother made it through his first week in New Jersey. He is definitely having adventures over there, and hopefully his Spanish will continue to improve.
New calling. Every fall I have the false premise that I'm going to keep the same calling as I had during the summer. Nope. I got a new calling, but I probably shouldn't post it yet since I haven't officially been called yet. But needless to say, my new calling is a surprise to me. And I hope that things go well with it.
