Awesome Hospital Document

The website for my editing class is down, so I'll have to make the following post here instead of for a bunch of self-proclaimed grammarians.

MRIs are such an adventure. I've had one before, but as I wandered down the hallways of UVRMC looking for MRI signs, I was trying to remember what MRI stood for. Something, something, imaging. Right.

Anyway. After it was over (wayyyyy too early in the morning) the radiologist handed me a piece of paper. And my editing brain kicked in. (Sorry, I can't help it.)

First problem: the title. Urban South Region Diagnostic Imaging Outpatient Post-Contrast Administration Information Sheet. Please note this extremely long title was in all caps, bold, and underlined. That's a formula for having your reader skip the title entirely.

And then, a typo. "The contract media will be eliminated from your system over the next 24 yours." Yours. Oh, you mean hours. At least I hope you meant hours. I see how the y key is just above the h key on the keyboard. But if not, I hope yours isn't a long period of time.

I'm guessing an editor didn't look at this. Or it was placed at the very bottom of the editing priority scale.

I also had issues with their registration form--the spaces where they wanted you to list your referring doctor, birthday, date of last prescription taken, etc. were about half an inch wide. Thanks for the adequate writing space...
