Point: Erin

After a continuous grammatical debate with some of my fabulous colleagues, I made an inquiry yesterday to the source of all knowledge, the Chicago Manual of Style.
Dear Chicago Manual of Style,
My question is about whether or not periods should be placed at the end of a URL used within a sentence. My coworkers say that we don't need a period at the end of a website address. Chicago doesn't mention punctuation after a website, only within it. Should I continue to tell them we need a period after it anyway simply because a period designates the end of the sentence?
Erin
Today they wrote me back.
Dear Erin,
Yes, you absolutely do need to mark the end of a sentence, whether it ends with a URL or not.
Thank you for writing--
